Spurned youth hacks Keralite woman to death in Coimbatore, attempts suicide
Coimbatore: A young Keralite woman was hacked to death by a man, who is also a Keralite, after his marriage proposal was turned down by the former. The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Dhanya who was residing at Annur near here.
Zahir, a native of Kunnathur in Palakkad, is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Palakkad following suicide attempt after committing the crime Wednesday night.
Zahir, 27, had gone to Dhanya's house while she was alone and hacked her to death, reports said.
Dhanya, an engineering graduate, was already engaged to be married to someone else. Zahir knew Dhanya for a year, but her parents refused his proposal.
Coimbatore police and Palakkad South police have launched a probe into the incident.
This is the fourth such brutal killing by jilted lovers in Tamil Nadu in the last four months.
A 25-year old female teacher was allegedly hacked to death at Tuticorin in August at a church by a man, who later ended his own life, for spurning his love.
A 20-year-old engineering student was allegedly beaten to death in her classroom in a private college in Karur district by her senior last month for spurning his love.
Woman techie Swathi was hacked to death by a young man at a railway station in Chennai on July 24 in full public view for the same reason.
