CauveryViolence: 2 special trains running from Bengaluru to Kerala today
Kochi: With tension escalating in and around Bengaluru following the protests over the dispute over sharing of water in Cauvery river, the Railways has introduced two special trains to Kerala from the Metro City.
The Railways Monday night announced that two special trains will leave Bengaluru to Kerala on Tuesday. The first train will leave Bengaluru City station at 11.15 am. The train will be upto Thiruvananthapuram, Manorama News reported. It will be an unreserved train.
Those who want to go to Kannur side, can alight the train at Shoranur station and a train will take them towards Kannur. The second train will leave Bengaluru for Kannur at 6.50 pm in the evening, the report added.
A Kerala police team is working in Bengaluru to ensure safety to people, the report said.
KSRTC resumes service partially
Meanwhile, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), which suspended its services to Kerala, resumed its operations partially. Report said that five buses have left Bengaluru for Kerala and will reach Kasaragod by noon via Mangaluru.
One KSRTC bus came under stone pelting at the Satellite bus stand on Mysore road in Bengaluru.
KSRTC buses also started plying to Kerala Tuesday morning from Mysuru, which was also hit by violence.
KSRTC had Monday suspended all its services to and from Bengaluru in the wake of sporadic violence in various parts of Karnataka.
Earlier, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had written to Railways minister Suresh Prabhu seeking special trains to Kerala to help people stuck in Bengaluru amid the violent protests, even as Onam festival is around the corner.
The union minister has assured Pinarayi that necessary steps in this regard would be taken, a press release issued from the the CM's office said Monday night.
Taking a serious note of the situation, Pinarayi also spoke to his counterpart in Karnataka over phone and took stock of the developments, official sources said.
